John Pilger, Nick Cave, Palestine, Gaza, 11-11-1975, Gough Whitlam, US Base Pine Gap & America’s Servitors by John Togs Tognolini

John Pilger, Nick Cave, Palestine, Gaza, 11-11-1975 Gough Whitlam, US Base Pine Gap & America’s Servitors by John Togs Tognolini

I'd like to make a plug for the Alexei Sayle Podcast that he does with Talal Karkouti. I was listening to the recent episode and they were talking about Nick Cave and his support for Israel. The whole question about art and politics. I was also thinking about it being nearly a year since John Pilger died, and that is why I wrote following to them. On Whitlam’s Sacking on 11-11-1975. I lived through that day as a sixteen year old nearly fifty years ago.

(Click on links to films, articles & websites)

Hi Alexei and Talal, 30-12-24 will mark a year since John Pilger died. JP was one of those Australians who made me, and many other Australians feel proud to be an Australian. That’s not the case with Nick Cave, not just on Palestine but also rocking up to Charlie’s Coronation when there are so many people in poverty in Britain.

John Pilger born 9-10-1939 Bondi, Sydney,Australia -died 30-12-23 London, United Kingdom, age 84. Photo from his 2002 film Palestine Is Still The Issue

Like you Alexei I like his songs. I would hate to endure what Nic Cave has done with his loss of two children, but then how many children have been killed with Israel’s Genocide in Gaza? I believe he’s privileged arse.

Back to John Pilger, out of his 61 films that he made. I want to draw attention to the third episode of this 1988 Last Dream documentary trilogy  Other People’s Wars, a lot of people should watch it in Britain, the US as well as here in Australia. On the relaunched John Pilger website it says;

’ In 1972, with the election of Gough Whitlam’s Labor government, ‘there was at long last the chance of independence’. wrote one observer. Whitlam was not anti-Washington, but he and his largely left-wing cabinet had no intention of allowing Australia to continue as America’s servitor. During his government’s first 100 days, Whitlam ended all military involvement in Vietnam, along with conscription. Those jailed for opposing the war were freed and pending prosecutions were stopped. Royal patronage was scrapped.

The US administration of President Richard Nixon feared for its secret bases in Australia, notably those at Pine Gap, Nurrungar and the North West Cape, when Whitlam made it clear that they were no longer sacrosanct and the treaty governing Pine Gap, due to expire in December 1975, might not be extended.

The US Pine Gap Base near Alice Springs.

Whitlam also demanded to know the names of CIA agents working undercover in Australia, leading the agency’s chief of East Asia, Theodore Shackley, to describe the Prime Minister as a ‘security risk’ and threaten to end intelligence links with Australia.

There followed a ‘coup’ against Australia’s democratically elected government in 1975. This is examined by Pilger and a team that includes distinguished investigative journalists William Pinwill and Brian Toohey and, in the United States, Joseph Trento.

Ostensibly, the Whitlam government was sacked by the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, the British monarch’s representative in Australia, using archaic ‘reserve powers’, on the pretext of the Senate’s refusal to release budget resources. It was, says Pilger, a repeat of the CIA’s successful coup in Chile two years earlier against Salvador Allende. The CIA’s contacts with a senior Australian civil servant who had the ear of Kerr were vital. ‘Dozens of calls took place,’ says Trento, ‘[including] a recommendation to remove Whitlam from office… There was a call from the CIA to MI6 [in London], saying we have a security problem with the Prime Minister of Australia.’

The night before The Last Dream was broadcast, Pilger spoke to Whitlam on the phone. ‘We talked for several hours,’ he said. ‘He backed the film and said that this was the only time, to his knowledge, that there had been a comprehensive television investigation and he was grateful for it.

Australian Prime Minster Gough Whitlam after he was sacked 11-11-1975

Whitlam didn’t believe that his overthrow had been directly engineered by foreign intelligence agencies but felt that they had played a significant part. In the end, he blamed the Governor-General, whom he loathed personally.’

Following the broadcast of The Last Dream in Britain and on ABC Television, Whitlam repeated that he believed the CIA and MI6 had played a part. In his 1985 book, The Whitlam Government 1972-75, he revealed that in 1977 President Carter had sent an emissary to Australia who told him that ‘the US would never again interfere in the domestic political processes of Australia’.’

Next year 11-11-25 will mark 50 years since Whitlam was sacked. The satellite intelligence collected at the US Base Pine Gap, near Alice Springs, has been used by Israel since Day One of its Genocide in Gaza, (TARGETING PALESTINE TARGETING PALESTINE Australia’s secret support for the Israeli assault on Gaza,Australia’s secret by Peter Cronau 3 November 2023, Declassified Australia

2023).

There are many reasons why the Australian Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is a disappointment to many people here who voted for him nearly three years ago, but allowing Australian territory to be used like this is the action of an American servitor supporting Israel’s Genocide.

Albo is a long way from Gough Whitlam or Jeremy Corbyn.

David McBride-'If you're seeing this, I'm in jail.'

                                David McBride

'I’ve just got one thing to say this morning. I’ve never been so proud to be an Australian as today. I may have broken the law, but I did not break my oath to the people of Australia and the soldiers who keep us safe.’

David McBride before entering the court where he was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison on Tuesday, 14-5-24.

I have said David McBride is an Australian that makes you feel proud to be an Australian unlike the bastards that he has taken on.

My view is reenforced after watching this video he made expecting to end up in prison before going into the Canberra Supreme Court yesterday morning.

Free David McBride!

David McBride is an Australian that makes you feel proud to be an Australian. Unlike the bastards he has taken on!

Whistleblowers are the backbone of a healthy, thriving democracy. That's why we must keep the pressure on and demand the Albanese Government intervene and prioritise reforms that truly shield those brave enough to speak out.

Whistleblowers must be protected, not punished!

Michael West Future of Gas - El Reporto de L'Oeste

'Donald Trump, eat your heart out Sonny Jim! Some real whoppers in this Future of Gas Strategy Report.  Check out how to cook the planet and give money to multinationals too!' Westy let's exposing the scandalous truth that the Albo and the ALP have sold out to fossil lobby to burn more gas on a burning planet.

Some of us remember the first time we said ALP stands for Alternative Liberal Party with Bob Hawke. Westy lets rip at Albo, the ALP and their friends in the US Gas Multinationals and the Fossil Fuel Media. No such thing as Climate Change is there?

That Doug Nicholls's Photo And Its Story by John Tognolini

I need to share this photo of Doug Nicholls.

The famous Aboriginal activist and Yorta Yorta Man and Pastor, Sir Doug Nicholls and future Governor of South Australia, in the Victorian Football Association Team against New South Wales in Sydney, 1931.
The man in front of him is George Hunt. George Hunt is the son of of George Campbell Hunt.

This is the cover of my 2014 historical novel Brothers Part One: Gallipoli 1915. I will be re-publishing and updating it later this year, George Hunt’s father George Campbell Hunt is in front of my uncle Stephen Tognolini in the photo. George Campbell Hunt was killed in the Battle of Hamel eight days later on July 4th 1918.

The book’s cover photo is from the Australian War Memeorial’s Group Portrait of the 21st Battalion’s Non Commission Officers on 27th June 1918. I sent this part of the group portrait to Philippa Scarlett, who wrote the excellent book Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Volunteers for the AIF [Australian Imperial Force] and has a great website called Indigenous Histories because I thought George Campbell Hunt was an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Man. Philippa published it on her website (WHAT WOULD CHARLES BEAN HAVE SAID ABOUT GEORGE CAMPELL HUNT AIF). George Campbell Hunt’s great grandson Michael Riley, sent her information about his great grandfather.

Phillipa wrote, “The records located by Michael and others show his father also George Hunt was from Antigua in the West Indies and had arrived in New South Wales by 1877.”

George Campbell Hunt with unidentified Comrades wearing fezzes with children. Photo courtesy Michael Riley.

Are the soldiers in this photo fellow members of the 21st Battalion? Chances are they are his Comrades. Is the photo taken in Alexandria, Egypt before they sailed to Gallipoli in 1915? Or before sailing to Marseille, France in 1916? Or is it at Tel El Kebir when they were guarding the Suez Canal after Gallipoli? Is it in Cairo when they garrisoned it? Did any of the six with George die amongst the 14 from drowning when their troopship HMT Southland was torpedoed going to Gallipoli?  Were any of them among the 18 dead at Gallipoli from sniping? Would any of them be amongst the 23,000 killed or wounded Australians at Pozieres? Were any killed during the fighting at Mouquet Farm? Part of the Pozieres battlefield described by Charles Bean as “so densely sewn with Australian blood.” Or killed at Bullecourt? Did any drown in the mud at Passchendaele in 1917? Or the battles of 1918 such as Hamel and Mont Saint-Quentin? Do all six of them have their names on the Wall of Honour at the Australian War Memorial with the over 100,000 other names of Australia's war dead?

The one link between the six in the Egyptian Picture is George Campbell Hunt. We know that he was wounded four times before he won the Distinguished Conduct Medal on the Hindenburg Line,

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the assault on the Hindenburg Line. He led his platoon forward in an attack with great coolness and courage. And although twice wounded assisted to evacuate the wounded, resuming his command after his own wounds had been dressed.  Recommendation Distinguished Conduct Medal.

After his death at the Battle of Hamel it was written and widely said that he was, “ Loved by all who knew him.” The colour of his skin did not matter not to his Army Comrades.

Yet this picture of his son George Hunt in front of Doug Nicholls, suggests that George Campbell’s son was not accepted as an equal. Phillipa wrote, “This is not a complete photo but is a section cut out specifically to show Hunt and Nicholls. Although normally playing for different teams, Brighton and Northcote respectively – both were from Northcote which could explain the connection and the friendship which the cut out photograph indicates. …. Richard  Broome says,

“Doug tried out unsuccessfully for Carlton in 1927. He signed with the Northcote Victorian Football Association team,…[Then]. He played fifty-four games for [VFL/AFL Club] Fitzroy”

Broome’s comments suggests that the colour of their skin could also have forged a bond between the two men.”

Neil Smith who wrote the history of the 21st Battalion The Red And Black Diamond points out there were Aboriginal Anzacs in the 21st Battalion such as Lawrence Booth Dow and Percy Pepper, there was at least 1,200 in the Australian Army during World War One.

I will also be putting this in the updated edition of my book.

When Iris Clayton (1945 – 2009), a Wiradjuri Woman and member of the Stolen Generations, inspired by her father Cecil Clayton, a Rat of Tobruk in World War Two in the 2/13th Battalion, 9th Division 2nd AIF. She wrote about his return home to Australia.

The Black Rat

He lived in a tin hut with a hard dirt floor.

He had bags sewn together that was his door.

He was a Rat of Tobruk until forty five,

He was one of the few that came back alive.

Battered and scarred he fought for this land,

And on his return they all shook his hand.

The price of fighting for the freedom of man

Did not make any difference to this Blackman.

He returned to the outback, no mates did he find.

If he had a beer he was jailed and then fined.

He sold all his medals he once proudly wore:

They were of no use to him any more.

Confused and alone he wandered around,

Looking for work though none could be found.

The Anzac marches he badly neglected,

Would show to his comrades how he was rejected.

He fought for this land so he could be free.

Yet he could not vote after his desert melee.

And those years in the desert they really took their toll,

He went there quite young and he came home so old.

This once tall man came from a proud Black tribe,

Died all alone – no one at his side.

Iris’s description of her father experiences applied to World War One Indigenous Veterans as well and she dedicated her poem The Black Rat to all Indigenous Soldiers in all of Australia’s Wars. Her son Bruce Clayton/Brown gave me permission to put it to music and reproduce it. World War One Veterans like World War Two Veterans as demonstrated by Iris Clayton had their children taken off them as well and became part of the Stolen Generations.

'This is a Society Awash with War Criminals': Mehdi's Panel of Experts on Israel and Rafah

'In response to these escalations, Mehdi hosted a town hall for Zeteo paid subscribers with Israeli Holocaust scholar Raz Segal and Palestinian lawyer Diana Buttu.

Segal, who has previously called Israel’s war on Gaza a “textbook case of genocide,” explained to Mehdi why Israel’s assault on Gaza, and America’s support for it, is about so much more than those in power will ever admit.

Zeteo contributor Diana Buttu reminded viewers that Israel’s latest escalations in Rafah are, unfortunately, no surprise, stating that the invasion is what “Netanyahu always wanted.” ‘

In this monologue, Owen Jones calls out US president Biden out for the Genocidal Maniac that he is over his support of Israel’s Ethnic Cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza. Propaganda, Protest, And Politics | Mehdi Hasan | TMR

'Mehdi joins Sam and Emma, and they discuss how the propaganda in support of Israel appearing on news and social media is the greatest since the entire media machine threw itself behind the Iraq War in the early 2000’s. They discuss President Biden’s reactions to the campus protests, the weaponization of the word “democracy”, the baffling decision by Senate Majority Leader Schumer to reportedly partner with Speaker Johnson to invite Netanyahu to address Congress, and also check out Sen. Bernie Sanders explaining why Israel may end up being President Biden’s own version of Vietnam.

Sam and Emma speak with Mehdi Hasan, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of the new media company Zeteo, to discuss the biggest stories of the week and his new media venture.'

This interview is worth watching to get your head around the Pro-Israel Propaganda that has been used to justify their Genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, that we’ve endured over the last six months. Also, its impact on the US Election in November and Biden’s attack on the student protests.

Mehdi Hasan on The Truth about Israel and the Hostages

'In his opening monologue for 'Mehdi Unfiltered', Mehdi reminds viewers that although the Israeli government loves to use the hostage situation to justify the war in Gaza, the Netanyahu government has ultimately refused to free their own hostages – their own innocent citizens – from the hands of Hamas.

“For everyone who believes that Benjamin Netanyahu and his government of far-right fascists and racists are fighting their war in Gaza in order to rescue the hostages, how do they explain the fact that Netanyahu had a chance to bring all of the civilian hostages home, right at the very beginning?” Mehdi presses. Mehdi also points out that it’s not just Israeli civilians being held captive. There are also, “thousands of Palestinians who have been rounded up, detained, held without trial, tortured, sexually abused, without any charges, let alone any convictions, in Israeli prisons.”' Founded by Mehdi Hasan, Zeteo has a strong bias for the truth and an unwavering belief in the media’s responsibility to the public. Is Biden the ‘White Moderate’ that MLK Martin Luther King Warned Us About? | Mehdi Hasan and Owen Jones

                                                                          Mehdi Hasan and Owen Jones

Owen and Mehdi discuss the ongoing misrepresentation of college protests in the mainstream media, the debate over genocide in Gaza, and the London mayoral elections. They discuss how college and antiwar protests have long been demonized to undermine public support for them, and how the term "genocide" is deliberately and conveniently mis-defined by supporters of Israel.

Plus, Mehdi takes us back in time to read Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 's letter from a Birmingham jail about the “white moderate,” and reflects on its relevance to modern-day politicians, particularly in light of recent comments made by President Joe Biden. Owen criticizes Biden's approach on all this, accusing him of fetishizing past struggles while vilifying current protests.

They also touch on the London mayoral elections and the challenges faced by Sadiq Khan, particularly in the context of his stance on issues like Gaza and Islamophobia.

‘Two Outspoken’ is a twice-monthly conversation between broadcaster, author, and Zeteo Editor-in-Chief Mehdi Hasan and political commentator, author, and activist Owen Jones. Mehdi and Owen will be discussing the news of the week, offering their analysis on the state of American and British politics, and even, from time to time, taking questions from Zeteo subscribers.

'Unshocked': Naomi Klein vs the “ideological shackles of Zionism"

Naomi Klein and Mehdi Hasan

In a conversation with Mehdi Hasan for her new contributor segment at Zeteo, called “Unshocked,” Jewish activist, academic, and author Naomi Klein calls for an “exodus from the ideological shackles of Zionism.”

Naomi also reacts to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu comparing student protesters at Columbia University to Nazis, telling Mehdi that when it comes to Netanyahu, “there is nobody more adept at exploiting Jewish trauma, historical trauma, and turning it into a political weapon for his own advantage.” Mehdi also opens up to Naomi about why he decided to boycott the White House Correspondents Dinner. “I can't call out what Israel is doing to Palestinian journalists with American-made bombs and then go to a fun, comedy-type dinner with the President of the United States — who's not just responsible for that, but is also not even acknowledging it,” Mehdi told Naomi.  In 2007, Naomi wrote “The Shock Doctrine,” a book that explains what happens when a national crisis throws citizens into a state of shock and how the powerful exploit those moments. Although it may be one her most popular books, Naomi tells Mehdi that she dreams of a day where the Shock Doctrine will no longer be relevant, where people can stay grounded even in times of chaos.  Look out for “Unshocked” with Naomi Klein every month, where Naomi and Mehdi will provide deeper analysis on current events, religion, politics, ideology, and more. Victim Blaming | The West Report by Michael West

'Professor John Keane of Sydney University is a man of high integrity, high intelligence and intellectual courage and so it was this week that Ruprert Murdoch's genocide promoters of the Australian newspaper, have just done a hatchet job on him on behalf of the Zionist Israel government Lobby. John Keane symbolizes the rising tensions across the globe on university campuses in the US over Israel's Genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza and even this week one of the crackpot ministers in Benjamin Netanyahu's government, 'Our friends.' as Penny Wong and Anthony Albanese call these people, literally this guy Bezalel Smotrich was calling for the genocide to proceed or to ramp up in Rafa, south of Gaza, 'Amalec' he said, 'Amalec in Rafa, which is an Old Testament reference to genocide this is where one and a half million people at least are huddled terrified in camps, in refugee camps starving. Starved by 'our friends' in the government of Israel. The IDF is literally murdering people in tents now. Killing more children, having been exposed for Mass Graves where their victims were hog tied….of another Holocaust. Yet the mainstream media in Australia and in most of the world, many parts of the world continues to ignore the war crimes of the Netanyahu regime the genocide.....'Michael West. Victim Blaming | The West Report

“Iran did what pretty much any country in that situation would do.” In the latest Mehdi Unfiltered monologue, Mehdi sheds light on all the context mainstream media reporters excluded when covering Iran’s attack on Israel this month.

He explains why the media’s framing of Iran’s attack as “unprovoked” is not only disingenuous, but also dangerous. “We expect elected Republicans to lie shamelessly, to gaslight openly… but our media has to be better than that,” Mehdi says. Sleepwalking into World War 3": Mehdi on What the Media Isn't Telling You about Iran vs Israel

Proud To Have Worn A Muhammad Ali T-Shirt In Wello's Woolworths by John Tognolini

It needs to be said. One must challenge racism. And this is one I’m going to air from my past. A number of years ago when I was living out in the Bush at Wello, Wellington near Dubbo in New South’s Wales Central West, over 400 kilometres north west of Sydney. I was wearing a Muhammad Ali t-shirt that I bought in a sports shop in Dubbo. I was shopping in Woolworths and this old farmer I knew well started abusing me.

His was full of hate and bitterness and he said in a venomous voice, ‘What are you doing wearing Cassius Clay for? He repeated it a number of times loudly. Everyone in the supermarket was looking at him. All of us were stunned by his hate.

I didn’t reply because I thought what’s the point. He’s a bitter man not worth the time. However, apart from his bigotry I was taken back by him saying Cassius Clay and not Muhammad Ali, the name my hero from when I was kid took when the champion. adopted the Muslim faith.

I only found out the answer recently. When I came across Henry Rollins, the American singer, writer, spoken word artist, actor and comedian, spoke about his father’s racism. He said how his father refused to call him Muhammad Ali the name of his choice. His father would make the point of only calling him Cassius Clay and nothing else. Rollins’s father would have been the same age as that Wello farmer.

There are those words from Muhammad Ali that will outlive the hate merchants and bigots.

“I would like to be remembered as a man who won the heavyweight title three times.

Who was humorous and who treated everyone right.

As a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him, and who helped as many people as he could.

As a man who stood up for his beliefs no matter what.

As a man who tried to unite all humankind through faith and love.

And if all that's too much, then I guess I’d settle for being remembered only as a great boxer who became a leader and a champion of his people.

And I wouldn’t even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was.”

~ Muhammad Ali

Trotsky Didn’t Surf by John Tognolini

Leon Trotsky, Frida Kahlo, Natalya Sedova, 1937

There was that knock on the door, the other day and my partner answered it. She saw two young men, one with a bucket for donations and the other introduced themselves saying they were from the Socialist Equality Party. She replied, ’No, thank you.’ The usual call people make when Devil Dodgers knock on one’s door being polite to those that belong to religious cult, but this was a political cult. Is cult the wrong word? No, it isn’t and I can say that because I was in one but a political cult of a different brand of Trotskyism.

I cut my political teeth as a 16-year-old Trotskyist in June 1975 when I joined the Socialist Youth Alliance, the youth organisation of the Socialist Workers League, a member of the Leninist Trotskyist Faction of the Fourth International. Mad as bat shit politics. However, even though I broke with the sectarian politics, it did give me some good political characteristics. On Trotsky himself I see him as a Hamlet-like historical figure. If Trotsky were alive today and he looked at Australian groups such as Socialist Alliance, Socialist Alternative, and Solidarity, he would ask who needs Stalin? When I saw a member of Solidarity wearing a Trotsky t-shirt I thought, why? One of my projects is to write a book called Trotsky Didn't Surf. I have been influenced by reading and listening to Alexei Sayle's Stalin Ate My Homework & Thatcher Stole My Trousers. I tweeted him about what he said on one of his Youtube Podcasts 'Interesting chat between Alexei and @p_bevin [Jermey Corbyn's media adviser] on the smearing of Corbyn, gentrification and betrayal of social housing tenants, and Trotskyism. Nice to hear that Alexei agrees that Trotsky crushing the Kronstadt rebellion was the moral death of the Bolshevik revolution.'Alexei Sayle's Podcast

I take ownership of my mistakes. On the Socialist Workers Party, later Democratic Socialist Party and now Socialist Alliance. It might seem strange to assert that the American Trotskyist Jame Cannon who the Australian SWP led by Jim and John Percy and Doug Lorimer moulded the party on had more in common with Stalin. But it is true.

They followed the US SWP in an Ape Like Manner and had far greater demands on its members than those who followed the UK SWP such as the International Socialist Organisation that split into Solidarity and Socialist Alternative. John Percy actually led his followers from Socialist Alliance after they were expelled from it by Peter Boyle into Socialist Alternative.

In the SWP the membership was based on our pledges, selling the the paper, moving to different cities, as well as the corralling of the membership with meetings for the sake of having meetings and the annual party conference, much like Socialist Alternative’s Marxism Conference and Solidarity’s version. As well as both of these groups with their Red Wedges at demos.

In 1979-1980-1981 I was working at GMH's Dandenong and Fisherman's Bend Plants and was trying to rejoin the party. Even though I was pledging $30 a week from $120 week pay packet, selling the paper, active in the Vehicle Builders Union (later became part of the AMWU) and showing solidarity with the Workers Occupation of the Port Melbourne Toyota Plant and the Irish Hunger Strikes. In 1981 I was told that I could only rejoin the party if I moved to Sydney. The whole turn to industry was very Stalinist and again an Ape Like action. When the US SWP became totally insane, we broke company with it but still kept the organisational norms on membership remained. And yes, we had a layer of apparatchiks, and that applied to the party’s large staff. There was also this attitude that still exists that your not a ‘serious revoltionary’ until you worked on the paper Direct Action, Green Left Weekly, now Green Left.

They Percy Brothers and Lorimer were happy to fly around the world on our pledges. Another thing that the Percys preached was 'being footloose revolutionaries' not getting a mortgage for a house and I was told by leader of the Melbourne Branch not to have kids. Saying that the Percys had big houses in Glebe. Also, another aspect was jumping or frowning on any independent thought or action. I noticed as I started doing radio and that was seen being against the party because I was not selling the paper. Even when I interviewed Tim Anderson after he was released from prison and the conviction for Hilton Bombing Coviction quashed. there was no reference to my radio show made in Green Left Weekly.

When I came back to Katoomba, in the greater Sydney Area after 8 years in the Bush at Wellington near Dubbo in 2016. I saw the same structure still there with Socialist Alliance. I resigned after I was gagged over my differences on union work in Teachers Federation. Socialist Alliance self-destructed over supporting Steve Jolley with the Victorian Socialists in 2018 Victorian Elections, as well as many other mad errors.

When I look at Socialist Alliance at the Gaza Protests, that regularly attend in Sydney and also on a recent 8 day visit to Melbourne. I’ve noticed its members in the main, as people around my age 65 and upwards. Last year I had open public disagreement with a Socialist Alliance member who was backing Solidarity’s campaign in opposing the teachers accepting the biggest salary increase for teachers since the 1990s and he was not even a member of the union.

There are many things that shaped me that were positive and made me the political individual and activist that I’m today: next year will mark 50 years as an active unionist, 25 years blue collar and 25 years as teacher unionist, Life Membership in two unions, the Painters & Dockers and NSW Teachers Federation, my work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait People from working with the families the forced Bob Hawke to set up the Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Royal Commission and the 1988 Sydney Anti-Bicentenary Protests to Supporting Adam Goodes, Adnyamathanha Aboriginal Man, 2014 Australian of the Year and Sydney Australian Football Club Champion who was driven out of Australian Football by racism to campaigning for the Voice last year. Socialist Alliance largely opposed it and then gave critical support to just weeks before the vote. I could say a few more but I won’t. Resigning from Socialist Alliance was a step forward for me and I have noticed that with other Comrades who have resigned from Solidarity and Socialist Alternative.
